Why ‘la vache’?

Spend any amount of time in France and sooner or later someone is going to say ‘oh la vache!’ Literally, ‘oh the cow!’ the phrase is used where English-speakers would say ‘wow!’ Since I’ve been in France, French cuisine and pâtisserie in particular has made me say ‘wow’ a lot and this blog is dedicated to sharing that experience with you. Of course, you’d also say ‘oh la vache’ when you see the amount of butter that goes into French cooking, and that of course comes from … a cow. ‘Oh la vache!’
